Spring brings us longer days and warmer temperatures
and an explosion of blossoms in the cherry and apple
orchards. The early spring rains stimulate the elusive morel mushrooms to pop up from the forest floor. It's a special time of year ideally suited
for fishing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, canoeing, mushroom hunting,
golf or just relaxing with the sweet smell of clean air.
Summer offers the family fun that northern Michigan is so famous for. The National
Cherry Festival, live theatre, the Traverse City Film Festival, diverse shopping, an array of dining options
and big-name
entertainment at Interlochen and great golfing complement the amenities
of Spider Lake Retreat. Launch your boat from our private ramp and enjoy
a hot summer afternoon on the water. Get a tan on the sandy beach while
the kids splash in the crystal clear water of Spider Lake. This is what
a summer vacation is supposed to be!
Autumn is glorious in the Grand Traverse area and it's especially beautiful from
Spider Lake. The blazing trees reflected in the clear water of the lake
interrupted only by a wisp of morning mist are a photographer's delight.
Fishing and hunting seasons produce their own bounty. Visit the Leelanau wineries and Traverse City area wineries and experience
seasonal color tours for unforgettable side trips.
Winter is a very special season with five major ski resorts within 45 minutes.
A sixth ski area, Mt Holiday, offers
intermediate skiing and is only five minutes from Spider Lake Retreat.
These facilities offer cross-country skiing too, but just minutes away is the VASA Trail and the Sand Lakes Quiet
Area. If the skiing is great, the
snowmobiling is outstanding. Right out your door is access to hundreds
of miles of groomed trails. With annual snow fall totaling 150-200 inches,
there's usually plenty of snow to enjoy in the winter months. Trailer
parking is available.
